Bawan Buti is one of Bihar’s most treasured weaving traditions, believed to have flourished around Nalanda - a land steeped in knowledge, philosophy, and Buddhist thought. The name “Bawan” means fifty-two, and folklore connects it to 52 unique motifs, 52 repetitions in the weave, or even the 52 weeks of the year.
